Appeal Letter for a False AI Accusation

A calm, factual letter to respond to or appeal an accusation that you used AI, with space for your evidence.

Re: [ASSIGNMENT NAME], [COURSE], submitted [DATE]

I am writing to respond to the concern that I used AI to complete [ASSIGNMENT]. I wrote this work myself, and I respectfully ask that the finding be reviewed.

How I completed the work
[Describe your process briefly: when you started, how you researched, how many drafts you wrote, and any tools you used, including spell or grammar checkers.]

Evidence I am providing
1. Version history from [Google Docs / Microsoft Word] showing the document developing from [DATE] to [DATE].
2. My outline and notes, dated [DATE].
3. Earlier drafts: [LIST].
4. [Research materials, sources, or a writing record link.]

About the detector result
I understand the concern was based on [DETECTOR NAME AND SCORE]. AI detectors are known to produce false positives. OpenAI withdrew its own detector in 2023 because of low accuracy, and published research has found detectors flag writing by non-native English speakers at much higher rates. I ask that the decision rest on the full evidence rather than a detector score alone.

My request
I would welcome the opportunity to meet and discuss my work, answer questions about my sources and argument, or complete a short writing sample under supervision. I ask that [the grade be restored / the finding be withdrawn / the matter be reviewed under the appeal process].

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,
